About Mukai Osamu: Mukai Osamu is a Japanese actor with Hori Pro Entertainment. Born February 7th, 1982, he grew up in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan, and attended Meiji University, majoring in genetic engineering. In 2004 he won the 29th International Animal Genetics Society of Japan’s Best Poster Award. At this time, he was aiming to help engineer better modern medicine, and during all of this he worked as a bartender for six years. After being ranked #4 in the Ikemen (Hottie) Ranking for a magazine, he was scouted and made his acting debut in a commercial for Minute Maid.

Rising slowly but steadily since his debut role in Nodame Cantabile, Mukai Osamu has quietly built a solid repertoire of roles showcasing his extraodinary acting ability. He’s best known for his sweet smile, but his fresh looks belie his ability to play dark, troubled characters. His recent roles in high-profile dramas “Shinzanmono”, “Atashichi no Danshi” and “Gegege no Nyobo” (for which he won Best Supporting actor) as well as the films “BECK” and “Hanamizuki” have propelled him to the forefront to critical acclaim. He starred in his first stage performance at Aoyama Theater in February 2011 and hit the big screen as the lead in “Paradise Kiss” opposite Kitagawa Keiko.

In summer 2009 Osamu appeared as the cover-boy for magazine “an-an”‘s annual sex issue, in which he appeared completely nude. He wrote in his blog that he never thought he would do something like this and was surprised at himself, but because the cameraman was so nice to him and easygoing that it turned out to be fun. Mukai Osamu is also an avid chef and likes to showcase his skills on his blog, The Laboratory.
