Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de

Amazed about the ratings? ("Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de" - Fuji TV)

In this week’s first of two Drama Prime Time Reports, we saw the typical drops in ratings for the second episodes of various dramas. “Kaseifu no Mita” is very close to reaching 20%, and two new dramas premiered on Thursday.

Fuji TV must’ve been the most nervous when it came to the ratings of these second episodes. Last season, “Zenkai Girl” dropped by almost 5.0% and became the third Monday drama to score a single-episode rating. There was a similar result the season before that.

Thankfully, this season didn’t see any unusual nosedives, as “Watashi ga Renai Dekinai Riyuu” lost only 1.3% of its viewers. With a rating of 15.7%, it already achieved the best second-episode-rating for a Monday drama in over a year.

Popular Tuesday drama “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de” (also on Fuji TV) already lost a couple of viewers for its second episode. The ratings dropped by 2.0%, nearing the level of the network’s Monday drama with a rating of 16.1%. Of course, there isn’t anything to complain about at this level. The goal for this drama should be to stay above 15.0% with the average rating.

“HUNTER” (Fuji TV) gained a few more viewers thanks to the strong premiere of the above-mentioned drama last week. It was able to keep almost all of them for this week, and its third episode scored an average rating of 11.5%.

Meanwhile, NHK ended “Last Money” on a somewhat positive note, reaching 8.0% for the first time with the final episode. When you review  all the episodes, this drama achieved an average rating of 6.6%. That’s pretty low, considering that most previous dramas in the same time slot attained ratings around 8.0%. Maybe the next drama, “Kare, Otto, Otoko Tomodachi“, will attract more viewers.

Meanwhile, “Bitter Sugar” (NHK) was grateful for the stronger finale of “Last Money” and improved by over 2.0%. Next week, it will have to depend on the successful premiere of a new drama, airing just before its time slot.

As for the late-night dramas, “Shinya Shokudo 2” (TBS – 01:00 am) and “Watashi no Host-chan” (TV Asahi – 02:00 am) both dropped down to 1.5%.

‘Crime and mystery’ Wednesday contained no surprises. “Aibou season10” (TV Asahi) lost some viewers (-2.3% –> 17.4%), but the ratings really depend on the cases anyway. Plus, you don’t miss an awful lot in plot if you happen to skip one episode. The ratings for season nine were swinging between 17~24% throughout the entire season, which always spans across fall and winter.

As for NTV’s “Kaseifu no Mita“, this series barely strayed at all. Last week, 0.8% of viewers decided not to watch the second episode, and it seems the other 18.7% told them they were idiots for missing out. Word-of-mouth advertising paid off, as those 0.8% tuned in again this week, followed by 0.3% more. In total, this means a boost of 1.1%, leaving an average rating of 19.8% for the third episode. Will we see 20% next week?

No big changes for “QP” (NTV). It’s still barely above the 2.0%.

On Thursday, “Kasouken no Onna 11” (TV Asahi) already lost the steam of its two-hour-long pilot last week. Around 6.4% of its viewers had better things to do than to watch the second episode, earning the drama an mediocre rating of only 10.7%. However, this time slot is known for very unstable ratings, so they could already near the 15% again next week and nobody would be surprised.

At 9:00 pm, TV Asahi and TBS both premiered a new drama. The former aired the medical drama, “DOCTORS” (starring Sawamura Ikki) which achieved an okay-ish rating of 13.7%.

The latter started “Runaway” (starring Ichihara Hayato) with a two-hour-long episode and a rating of 12.5%, which seems to be nice for such a long episode. There are no previous dramas to compare it with other than “Wataru Seken wa Oni Bakari“, but there is no way you can compare these two. Let’s just accept the ratings and see how it will do throughout the season. It won’t be easy against “Himitsu no Kenmin SHOW” (NTV) and “Tunnels no Minasan no Okage Deshita” (Fuji TV), which runs at the same time, that’s for sure.

Meanwhile, “Mitsu no Aji” (Fuji TV) stopped its fall at 8.4% and “Himitsu Chouhouin Erika” seems to become the roller coaster ride of ratings this season. First it lost 2.2%, then gained 1.9%, and this week, lost 1.3% again.
