At Ail and An's lair in Juuban Odyssey apartments, the Makaiju is getting weaker. It has not been gathering as much energy as the aliens thought, and An blames the Sailor Senshi. Ail reminds her that if the tree dies, they will die. They exit the extra dimensional space where the tree resides, and Ail shows her an advertisement for the new Virtual Reality Theater that just opened in the Juuban Shopping District. He believes it would be an excellent place for a Cardian to collect human energy, and she agrees.
Usagi misreads an ad for the Virtual Reality Theater as "vertical reel" before being corrected by Luna. Usagi says that it is like a giant arcade, and says that she was known as the "Goblin Queen" at the arcade. Now she will have to show off her skills! She runs towards the theater. Luna says that she also invited Rei and the other girls, but they aren't there yet.
When Usagi arrives at the theater, there is a very long line. Many of the people in the line are couples, which depresses her. She tells Luna that they should just go home because it's just a war game anyway. Luna disagrees, saying that that's precisely why it is good for her! She thinks that Usagi doesn't remember how to be a warrior, so this will help her develop a competitive spirit.
Usagi refuses, but says that she would consider it if Mamoru were there. Usagi holds Luna in front of her and says, "I bet you actually know how to restore Mamoru's memory, don't you?" She begins shaking the cat.
Mamoru walks up and sees her. He says, "Just because you don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean should take it out on your cat. If you don't have anyone to date, why don't you go to the library like a normal junior high student, Odango Atama!" Usagi is so frustrated by him that she drops Luna and says that she does have someone to date.
As he heads to the end of the line, she notices that he is also going in by himself. She thinks that this is her chance to win him over! Luna wonders why she can't be so tenacious when she is fighting.
Meanwhile, an usher argues with Seijuuro, telling him that he must go to the back of the line. Seijuuro hypnotizes the young man and causes him to become very confused, immediately forgetting the argument. Seijuuro then hears Natsumi slapping another boy, saying that she will not date him. The boy tells her not to be so stuck up, and Mamoru soon intervenes by telling the guy that it is pitiful for him to pick on girls. The boy walks away from the scene, but makes a face at Mamoru as he leaves.
Natsumi feels that Mamoru has saved her, and she flings herself into his arms. She holds onto his arm and says that to show her appreciation, she will spend the day with him. Usagi sees this and grabs his other arm. The girls begin tugging him in opposite directions! Seijuuro sees what is happening, and asks Natsumi what she is doing. She laughs and introduces Mamoru, whom she says will be joining them for the day. Usagi says that in that case, she will also be joining them.
Seijuuro walks up as Natsumi and Usagi argue, and tells Natsumi that this is not a game. The female alien slyly says that it is better this way because they won't stand out. Before Seijuuro can fully respond, the girls and Mamoru walk away. He decides that perhaps it is not so bad this way, because he will be with Usagi. When the quartet reaches the front of the line, the hypnotized usher says that they are "special VIP guests" and welcomes them in. They walk in just as the other Senshi walk up and wave to Luna.
Inside the theater, everyone is seated and the game begins showing virtual beasts.
Shingo and Kenji are also there; Kenji is quite frightened, but Shingo is very excited to shoot lasers at the illusions. Kenji overhears Usagi fighting with Natsumi and turns to greet her. Instead of speaking to him, she angrily asks her brother why he gets to come here alone with their father. He says that she can't play high-tech games anyone, and she tells him not to assume that.
When another virtual monster is shot, the carts in which they are sitting begin to rumble. Usagi bounces out of her seat and into the arms of a very embarrassed Seijuuro. Everyone is shocked, and Kenji whispers, "Remember, Usagi... I trust you!" The other girls continue to wait in line outside the theater.
Meanwhile, the group inside the gets dressed in laser-tag gear. Shingo is taking his role very seriously; he even adopts the nickname "Sneakers Shingo" for himself and calls himself the "cool schoolboy superhero." He quotes Sailor Moon: "In the name of the moon, I'll punish you!" Kenji and Shingo walk through one of the caverns in the theater with their laser guns. As they shoot at several virtual bats, Kenji wonders what Usagi is doing.
In the other group, Natsumi gleefully shoots virtual monsters while holding onto the arms of both Mamoru and Seijuuro. This upsets both Usagi and Seijuuro, but she explains to the male alien that she "has no choice" to behave this way because otherwise it would look suspicious. A fierce competition erupts between the two men, who each attempt to shoot more monsters than the other. Of course, the girls are very impressed.
A monster appears near the two girls, but Usagi doesn't shoot, saying that "barbaric games" are not really her taste. Natsumi says, "winning is what gives everything meaning. You are so honest to admit defeat from the start." Of course, this causes a rivalry between the girls.
Suddenly, a virtual monster appears and scares them. Natsumi jumps into Mamoru's arms and tells him that they could stay like that longer if her prefers. He angrily pushes her away and says, "I'm sorry, but I decline. You can't win someone's heart by being so pushy." Usagi pats him on the back and says, "I agree, Mamoru... you're the man!"
Another monster appears. Usagi is frightened, so she runs away. Mamoru chases after her because he feels that a girl like her with no sense of direction will get lost very easily. Natsumi asks her partner, "Love is taken by force, right?" Realizing that she has just admitted her feelings for Mamoru, she quickly tries to defuse the situation by feigning a desperate need for energy. Seijuuro angrily says that this is why he told her this is not a game. She recovers and says that it's time to complete their mission.
They transform into their normal, alien forms. Ail holds up a deck of cards and instructs An to choose the best Cardian for this place. She selects a card. Ail plays his flute, and the card transforms into the Cardian Hell Ant.
[Commercial Break]
Hell Ant soon begins attacking humans and draining them of their energy. The humans quite confused; they believe that the Cardian is yet another fake monster. Kenji and Shingo get lost in the theater, and soon come upon Hell Ant. Ail and An sit nearby and laugh.
Meanwhile, Usagi and Mamoru wander through the caverns shooting at fake monsters. Usagi continues to miss them, while Mamoru shoots them with ease. He tells her that "it must be a special talent to miss so many targets." She is very impressed with his shooting. He grabs her hand and begins to run, telling her that if he is going to play, he wants to get the highest score!
As they run along, Usagi imagines Mamoru dressed as Tuxedo Kamen. She then imagines the Moonlight Knight grabbing her other hand, and is extremely happy. She soon snaps out of it, however, when she realizes that it is actually Shingo grabbing her hand. She yells at him to go away, but he tells her that their father is in trouble. He says that something is wrong with the monsters; even when he shoots them, they don't disappear. Mamoru leaves to help, and Shingo shows him the way. They leave Usagi, but she doesn't stay for long; she wants to help, too!
Outside the theater, the other girls have been waiting for quite some time to get in. There are only three people ahead of them in line.
Inside, Kenji is being attacked. Ail tells him that he is not interested in killing him; he instructs Kenji to "relax and rest for a while." Kenji tries shooting at the Cardian, but it has no effect. Hell Ant grabs his laser gun, which is attached to his back pack, and he is unable to escape. Eventually, the wire connecting the gun to his backpack breaks and he falls to the ground.
Luckily, Mamoru and Shingo arrive. Mamoru throws his chest guard at the monster to distract her, but she attacks the two of them. Mamoru grabs Shingo and they leap out of the way. Kenji throws a fire extinguisher from behind the monster to distract her again. He yells, "It's a parent's duty to protect his beloved child!" before spraying her with the fire extinguisher. Unfortunately, his method does not work, and Hell Ant is able to grab Kenji, Mamoru, and Shingo to drain their energy. Mamoru is the only one left conscious, and An tells Hell Ant to go easy on him.
While no one else is around, Usagi transforms into Sailor Moon. She arrives on the scene to confront the villains. At An's instruction, Hell Ant moves to attack. Sailor Moon begins her "Moon Tiara Action" attack... but it doesn't work. Her tiara stops mid-air and falls to the ground. Needless to say, she is extremely confused by this!
Mamoru does not recognize his former ally, but tells her that if she is going to fight, she needs to do so now! Hell Ant swings her tentacles at Mamoru and Sailor Moon, causing them to stumble and fall. Suddenly, a white rose flies through the air and the Moonlight Knight appears. This is also very confusing to Sailor Moon: she thought that Moonlight Knight was an alter-ego of Mamoru, but Mamoru is in the same room! Mamoru remarks, "Another weird one's shown up..." Moonlight Knight tells Mamoru that although he respects his courage, this is not a monster that a normal man can fight.
Hell Ant screams and rushes forward. Moonlight Knight brandishes his scimitar and attacks, cutting off the Cardian's tentacles. Thinking that he has incapacitated her, he sheaths his sword. However, even more tentacles spring forward and grab him.
Fortunately, the other Sailor Senshi arrive on the scene. Sailor Mercury uses her Sabão Spray attack to obscure Hell Ant's vision, while Sailor Mars uses Fire Soul to sever the tentacles that are binding Moonlight Knight.
Sailor Moon tells her friends that her tiara is no longer working. They are shocked! Sailor Venus picks up the tiara and gently tells Moon to pull herself together. Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter quickly use a combined Crescent Beam/Supreme Thunder attack to destroy Hell Ant. An and Ail vow to exact their revenge, then disappear.
Moonlight Knight says, "Excellent work! Sailor Senshi, even when you are fighting, the brilliance of your friendship shines beautifully." He quickly leaves the scene. Mamoru is still confused, and asks, "Who in the world are you people?" Suddenly, dozens of people come rushing through the cavern to help everyone while the Senshi quietly leave.
At the Tsukino house later, Ikuko bandages the wounds of Shingo and Kenji. Kenji remarks that he cannot believe that everything was caused by computer problems. Usagi sits nearby, in complete dismay. She quietly says to Luna that she cannot use her tiara anymore, and it turns out that Mamoru is not Moonlight Knight. She is very confused by everything, and begins to cry.
